Food Share

What is Food Share:

Aldersgate United Methodist Church sponsors Food Share, a program that provides groceries to the homes of senior citizens in need in our own community. Metrocrest Services (A United Way agency) interviews, screens, and chooses the recipients most in need of food donations and provides their information to Food Share. Food Share directors collect and purchase the groceries (as well as welcomes organic produce donations from The Giving Garden). Once a month, volunteers meet at the church at 8:30am on a given Saturday to help sort and deliver food to these senior citizens.

COVID Precautions:

In compliance with guidelines during this Coronavirus outbreak, volunteer opportunities for Food Share will be specific and limited to only a few slots.  Please volunteer only if you are confident that you are healthy and well and not in a demographic group described as especially vulnerable to the effects of Coronavirus!

Volunteer:

We have two volunteer positions you may sign up for, Bag Filler and Driver. You are welcome to sign up for both in one service slot, or only one if you prefer. Volunteers must be able to lift a 40 - 50 lb. delivery bag of groceries, or be able to help lift with another person. Many hands make light work!

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.”
