Screen Door on a Submarine

Dear church family,

Can you picture it, a submarine that can go underwater with a screen door?

Nope! I can. Since I first heard Rich Mullins’song, Screen Door, the image has been with with me. It drives home how crazy, weird, it is for us to try and separate our faith and our action. In the Book of James it says, “So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead.” (James 2:17 NRSV)

John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, insisted that Christian faith was more than just a set of beliefs or a feeling. Faith in Jesus changes our lives and results in faithful action in the world.

What does a living faith look like? How is our life different because of our faith from others who don’t follow Jesus? How do we know we are on the right path in our living? Well, John Wesley taught 3 rules to the early methodist small groups.

Join us this Sunday as I start a new Series, Living Faith, based on the book of James. I encourage you to read chapters 1 and 2. And join us either online or in person this week.

Blessings,

Rodney Whitfield
Senior Pastor
