Halloween

Dear church family,

Halloween is only a few days away.  And if your kids or grandkids are anything like mine, they are counting down the days. They can not wait for the next party at school, fall festival, or opportunity to dress up and have some fun. Maybe you are excited too.

Halloween is a lot of fun. You get to see all the epic costumes and you get a lot of candy, parent tax. But we don’t need any more sugar.

All my children attended and invited friends to last Sunday night's Fall Festival event at the church. They had so much fun playing games, playing on the inflatables, and scoring lots of candy and comic books (Thanks Micheal Hawkins!).

This Sunday is Halloween and thinking about our last sermon series: Living Faith. I’ve been thinking about ways we might love on our neighbors and friends this year from our front porches on Halloween.  Here are a few ideas

Just show love.

Open the door with a smile. Buy lots of good candy and give it away generously. Ask the kids what they are supposed to be, or, better yet, learn what’s “in” this year and impress them by identifying which Pokemon or Marvel character they are. Talk to people.

Love on the parents…

“Consider having some Hot Apple Cider and pumpkin bread or muffins out for the parents who are bringing their little kiddos around the block.”

Go trick-or-treating with a new family in your neighborhood.

While you are out Trick or Treating with the kiddos, staying back with the other parents, ask questions…get to know their stories. Take time to get to know your neighbors.

Reverse trick-or-treat.

While going around the neighborhood with the kids, give away big candy bars, or bags of candy to help your neighbors restock, or a hand-written note with a note of gratitude.

Whatever you are doing this Halloween, go ALL IN. Take time to look for the opportunities to get to know your neighbors, share hospitality, and be a blessing to your neighbors.  Wherever you go, go to share God’s love with others.

Have a great weekend. I look forward to seeing you in worship (Online or in person) this Sunday as we continue our ALL IN series.

With Gratitude,
Rodney Whitfield
