The Great Commission

Dear church family,

Do you know what the Great Commission is?

A Barna Study found that 51% of Christians cannot identify the Great Commision. It is found at the end of Matthew’s Gospel. They are the words spoken by Jesus to his disciples after his resurrection. Jesus said:

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the close of the age.” Matthew 28: 19-20

The Great Commission is important because it gives us our marching orders as a church, as modern day disciples. When we baptize persons and they join the church, we begin a lifelong process of growing and maturing in faith together; learning to live in the way of Jesus, learning how to love God and neighbor, and learning how to love one another as God first loved us.

It also reminds us that throughout our journey Jesus is always with us.

How many people in our community think they are alone? How many neighbors, coworkers or classmates think no one cares, or that no help is available?

It will be one less person if we are the church, if we follow Jesus. Maybe the simplest way for us to impact our community is to reach out to someone and let them know you are thinking about them, praying for them, and that God cares about them.

This Sunday I will continue Life’s Big Question series, online via facebook and youtube or in person 9:00 and 10:15 a.m.

With gratitude,
Rodney Whitfield
Senior Pastor
