On The Road Again

One of my favorite Willie Nelson songs is On the Road Again. Especially during the pandemic years, I wanted to get on the road. I wanted to travel and go, because we weren’t able to.

Since May 27, 2022 I have already traveled over 2000 miles, most of it over the course of only 8 days. The first trip was for a family adventure that had been planned for an entire year. We drove to south Texas, only to return home for less than 48 hours to drive to Arkansas for Allison’s Uncle Funeral (unplanned). Returning home for a little over a week before having to leave again for a quick trip this past weekend to Northwest Arkansas to celebrate my Nephew’s wedding (planned).

I am exhausted. Each trip only logged 2 nights in one location.

I can’t imagine Willie Nelson,  other artists, or business personnel who travel week in and week out, from one city to the next. I can’t imagine getting to a point where I would say, “I just can’t wait to get on the road again.”  Instead, after the hectic travel schedule of the last 3 weeks, I am singing, “I can’t wait to sleep in my own bed again,” and not “be on the road again.”

Don’t get me wrong. I love seeing new places, I love getting to be with family. I love  the adventures had that are now memories I will never forget. But the fact remains, right now, I don’t want to be on the road again.

Road trips can be exhausting.

This Sunday, we will continue our sermon series Road Trip and look at what happens to the disciples when they get back from their first solo road trip. How does their story help us be prepared for the journey ahead as modern disciples? What is the impact the journey has on our lives and our families?

Whether you are on the road again or in town, I hope you will join us for worship online or in person this Sunday at 10 a.m.!

I can’t wait to see each of you, hear how your journey is going, and worship together; so we might head back out into the week, ready to hit the road with Jesus again.

With Gratitude,

Rodney
