Summer Time

Summer is here. Well almost.

The official first day isn’t until June 20, but school is out and The North Texas Annual Conference wrapped up on Tuesday night, so for our house, summer has begun.

Did you know that between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans will consume 818 hot dogs per second. On July 4th, we will eat enough hot dogs to stretch from Washington, DC to Los Angeles more than five times. Meanwhile, the Eiffel Tower has begun growing six inches—summer heat causes iron in the tower to expand.

Summer time has always made me think about grilling in the backyard with friends, vacations, baseball, VBS, church camp, mission trips, and poolside hang outs. Most of all Summer time memories are filled with Road Trips.

Every Summer, growing up we would load up in the car two or three times for road trips. At least one trip to my grandparents farm, another trip to my other grandparents, and then a family vacation. Each road trip was filled with singing, telling stories, some sibling bickering, and always a few surprises.

This Sunday we will kick off the summer sermon series Road Trip. Jesus spent much of his public ministry “on the road” traveling from city to city, preaching, teaching and healing people. Jesus hit the road, sometimes taking the road less traveled, encountered some places worth stopping, and executed a few u-turns. I hope you will join us for a summer Road trip with Jesus.  Worship with us online as you road trip or in person when you are in town. Together we might learn more about Jesus, ourselves and the journey Jesus calls us into.  Let's make some new memories together!

Summer is here, what are your plans?

Two other important things:

Thank you for 4 amazing years. In the midst of the pandemic, lots of changes and the uncertainty of ministry these last two years, I love being in ministry with you and the people of North Carrollton. Thank you for your support and willingness to try things. I am honored to be re-appointed as your Senior Pastor and looking forward to year 5 with you.

Thank you to all who have been praying for Allison’s family. Especially grateful for Boston, Sarah, Mike, and Janille who stepped up and filled in when things got crazy. Especially grateful for those who have prayed for Allison’s Uncle Ray and who lifted us up as we traveled last week to Arkansas for Ray Hickey’s funeral.

With Gratitude,

Rodney
