Worth Stopping For

About a year and half ago, as a family, we were headed to our favorite beach destination. We have traveled those same roads 20 plus times. We were getting close, but traffic was the worst I had seen in years. GPS said we had less than 30 miles, but the estimated time of arrival was over 90 minutes.

It was getting late. If we waited until we could pick up groceries, dinner was going to be very late. So we decided to pull off and grab some dinner hoping traffic might thin out. We found, via google maps, a BBQ place that was on our route, but when we drove up, I must confess I was a little concerned. It was in an old brick building with peeling paint, tucked back on a side street. It looked like it might hold 30 people total.

Was this place really worth stopping for?

Maybe we should have kept inching our way through traffic, but it was too late now. We were already off the highway and in the parking lot.

We headed in, finding a simple menu and the most amazing smells.

After one bite, I had a new favorite spot. The food was fantastic. Our table was silent because everyone was eating and enjoying the amazing food.

I am so glad we stopped. It was so worth it and I highly recommend it.

Do you have a favorite spot along your road trips? A place you would recommend to everyone? A place worth stopping, that others might just drive right by?

Jesus, in his travels, stopped in Samaria and other places along the way when most would have kept on moving. Jesus saw people and places worth stopping for. People who were normally ignored or excluded, Jesus saw them fully. He took time, welcomed children, and had tough conversations.

Join us for worship this Sunday as we continue our Summer Road Trip Series, and remember: the journey matters as much as the destination. Stops along the way, even the unplanned ones are worth it!

With Gratitude,

Rodney
